top of page @Penn Home Research Publications Members Teaching & Outreach Non-Equilibrium Mechanics Laboratory Welcome! ​ Our research focuses on the development of new theoretical and computational paradigms to understand, predict and design far-from-equilibrium material behavior. Our aim is to retain the physical fidelity of lower scale simulations (e.g., atomistics or mesoscale), while simultaneously enjoy the computational efficiency of continuum models. Towards this goal, we use a highly interdisciplinary approach that combines continuum mechanics, statistical physics, applied mathematics, as well as machine learning and data driven strategies. We further enjoy collaborating with experimental colleagues. Some physical phenomena of interest include plasticity in metals and disordered media, phase transformations, viscoelasticity, diffusion processes, and wave propagation in metamaterials. ​ We are located in the Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics Department at UPenn,
